This article results from a sociocultural and anthropological analysis of the work Choriro, by the Mozambican writer Ungulane Ba Ka Khosa, from the perspective of the manifestation of ancestry and tradition as configuring elements of Mozambican identity. The followed two procedures, bibliographical research and analysis of the work based on the content analysis method. The results of the analysis allowed us to understand that the Mozambican identity, in the work, is built through the rescue of historical, social, cultural, geographic, religious values, beliefs, habits and customs that characterize the Mozambican people. Among these aspects, we can mention the use of names of Bantu origin, such as Nfuca, Nyazimbire, Nhabezi, among others. It is believed in African religion that people do not die, but pass into another dimension, still having influence over the living, which is why they are used at important moments through ceremonies and rituals and these remain in the memory of the people. This is what happened to the acculturated white man who believed that after his death, he would transform into a lion spirit (mpostoro), representing his strength, greatness and power. These events invoking the spirit of the dead are marked by songs, drumming and dancing, where chickens, goats, gazelles, mingo and millet are considered typical dishes of the Bantu people.
