It is a fact that in order for a communicative act to take place there must be a perfect combination of aspects related to the person, time, space and context of enunciation. However, it is through deictics that discourse is organised, in such a way that, by appropriating language through deictics, the speaker marks their presence, establishes their interlocutor, space and time in a communicative context. In these terms, the assumption underlying the research is that speakers of Changana, a Bantu language spoken in Mozambique and South Africa, have a mechanism for indicating/pointing to objects with greater or lesser distance from the interlocutor. The speaker places himself in his own point of view (deictic centre) and establishes himself as the reference point for the coordination of space and time. The aim of this qualitative and descriptive study is to analyse the morphological, semantic and pragmatic processes involved in the use of spatial deictics among Changana speakers.
