The study, raising awareness in the poetry of “Monangamba” by António Jacinto and “Impossible Waiver” by Agostinho Neto, aims to comparatively analyze two poetic texts, considered Classics of Angolan Literature, which demonstrate the role of poetry in raising awareness of the subjugated African, in particular of the Angolan. It is a qualitative study that uses the textual analysis method to explore the texts “Monangamba” by António Jacinto and “Impossible Waiver” by Agostinho Neto, which, in essence, demonstrate(s) marks that create(would) a feeling of revolt. against inhumane practices, particularly those of colonization. These signs, such as forced labor, the prohibition of the use of local languages, social inequalities and other practices highlighted in the poems, which were written from different angles, but with the same purpose, a“ Impossible Waiver” rouse the oppressed of reflection and studies, since they can reawaken a people who feel dominated by the policies of those who once fought against oppression, since the social policies adopted by governments, in many cases, do not provide rights and dignified living conditions . This social role of literature that, since early on, was present for marginalized groups is seen in these texts, taking into account the strong marks of literary expression that motivate the reflection of the reader(s).
