Onírúurú nǹkan ló ṣodo sínú lítíréṣọ̀ àbáláyé Yorùbá eyí tí oríkì jẹ́ ọ̀kan gbòógì nínú wọn. Bí a ṣe ní oríkì orílẹ̀ ni oríkì ìlú, oríkì bọ̀rọ̀kìnní, oríkì oúnjẹ, oríkì ẹranko, bẹ́ẹ̀ oríkì àmútọ̀runwá náà wà. Kókó pàtàkì tí iṣẹ́ àpilẹ̀kọ yìí gùn lé ni àgbéyẹ̀wò àṣàyàn àwọn akínkanjú ọmọ Yorúbá bí wọ́n ṣe jẹyọ nínú àṣàyàn oríkì orílẹ̀ bíi Oníkòyí, Òpómúléró, Àwórì, Olufẹ̀ àti àṣàyàn oríkì ìlú bíi Ìbàdàn, Ìlọrin, Ẹdẹ, Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́ àti bẹ́ẹ̀ bẹ́ẹ̀ lọ. Oríkì bọ̀rọ̀kìnní náà kò gbẹ́yìn lára àwọn oríkì tí a ṣàmúlò fún àkànṣe ìwádìí yìí. Ìlànà ìwádìí ni ìfọ̀rọ̀wánilẹ́nuwò pẹ̀lú àwọn òjìnmí apohùn ìbílẹ̀ àtí àyẹ̀wò onírúurú àwọn ìwé tó wà lórí oríkì Yorùbá. Tíọ́rí tí a ṣàmúlò fún ọ̀ríkínniwín àtúpalẹ̀ iṣẹ́ yìí ni Tíọ́rì Ìmọ̀ Ọnà-Ìsọ̀tàn (Narratological Theory) àti Tíọ́rì Ìbára-gbé-pọ̀ (Sociological Theory). Iṣẹ yìí fìdí rẹ̀ múlẹ̀ pé nípasẹ̀ ṣiṣe ìwádìí ìjìnlẹ̀ nínú onírúurú oríkì Yorùbá, oríṣiríṣi àwọn akínkanjú-kùnrin àti akínkanjú-bìnrin ló máa ń jẹ jáde lórí ipa ribiribi tí wọ́n ti kó fún ìtẹ̀lúdó, ìjìjàgbara fún ìlú kóówá wọn, ìtàn ìṣẹ̀dálẹ̀ wọn, ìtànkálẹ̀ ìran wọn, ọrọ̀-ajé wọn, ètò-ìṣèlú wọn àti onírúuru kókó ajẹmọ́-ìdàgbàsókè lóríṣiríṣi. Nítorí náà, àwọn oríkì Yorùbá kún fọ́fọ́ọ́fọ́ fún òkodoro ọ̀rọ̀ nípa ìtàn àtijọ́ tí ó wúlò fún mímọ ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ìdí abájọ àti ìtúntànrọ lóde òní nípa onírúuru àwọn akínkanjú ọmọ Yorùbá.

A literatura tradicional iorubá abrange diversas formas de expressão, entre as quais se destaca a poesia. Assim como existe a poesia nacional, há também a poesia urbana, a poesia folclórica, bem como poesias que versam sobre alimentação, animais e o divino. O objetivo central deste artigo é examinar a figura dos heróis iorubás conforme surgem tanto na poesia nacional — como Onikoy, Opomulero, Awori e Olufe — quanto na poesia local, associada a cidades como Ibadan, Ilorin, Ede e Ogbomoso, entre outras. A poesia folclórica também figura entre os gêneros poéticos analisados neste estudo. A metodologia de pesquisa baseia-se em entrevistas com estudiosos locais e na revisão de diversas obras sobre a poesia iorubá. As teorias empregadas na análise são a Teoria Narratológica e a Teoria Sociológica. O estudo demonstra que, por meio de uma análise aprofundada de diversos poemas iorubás, revelam-se homens e mulheres heroicos e suas imensas contribuições para o desenvolvimento e a defesa da terra natal, bem como para a história de sua criação, a expansão de suas linhagens, a economia, o sistema político e outros aspectos relacionados ao desenvolvimento. Portanto, a poesia iorubá é rica em detalhes históricos valiosos para a compreensão das razões e das narrativas contemporâneas acerca de diversos heróis iorubás.
