SEXUAL EDUCATION AS A DRIVING TOOL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HIV/AIDS AND OTHER STIS
Abstract
Today, sexual education has been recognized as an essential tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other STIs due to its role in promoting safe sexual behaviors and disseminating accurate and up-to-date information about sexual health. Numerous studies have shown that the lack of sexual education is directly related to the increase in the transmission of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS. Through a review of the scientific literature available in the Scielo repositories, Virtual Health Library (BVS), Google Scholar, and Medline, it was possible to identify several pieces of evidence confirming the effectiveness of sexual education in the prevention and mitigation of HIV/AIDS and other STIs. Sexual education covers a variety of topics, such as the importance of condom use during sexual intercourse, the deconstruction of myths and taboos surrounding sexuality, among others. Furthermore, sexual education is also crucial regarding individuals influence in making conscious and informed decisions about their sexual health, promoting autonomy and individual responsibility.
