O presente poema retrata temáticas de angústia, dor e amargura, com as quais o sujeito poético expressa e direciona a sua amada. Neste poema, a angústia do sujeito poético manifesta-se e intensifica-se ao saber que outra pessoa, e não ele, prepara o café da manhã e que não pode mais declamar seus poemas de amor para ela. A saudade e o desejo continuam fortes, mas ele sofre ao saber que o atual parceiro da amada a maltrata, apesar de professar amor por ela. Portanto, a dor é exacerbada pela consciência de que ela não é feliz sem ele, tanto em corpo quanto em alma.
