Iṣẹ́ yìí ṣe àgbéyẹ̀wò òye Ìyálóde gẹ́gẹ́ bí ipò àṣíwájú àti ìpìlẹ̀ fún ìfẹ̀hónúhàn àwọn obìnrin Áfíríkà nínú Ìjákọni Ìṣèlú nínú ìlànà ètò ìṣèjọba ìbílẹ̀ Yorùbá. Nípa ṣíṣe àfàyọ ẹ̀rí láti inú ìmọ̀ ìtàn, tíọ́rì aṣègbèfábo Áfíríkà, èrò ìjìnlẹ̀ nípa ìṣèlú ìbílẹ̀, àṣà alohùn àti ìṣèwádìí tí ó jinlẹ̀, iṣẹ́ yìí fi ìdí rẹ̀ múlẹ̀ pé Ìyálóde dúró gẹ́gẹ́ ọ̀kan nínú ipò tí ó ní ààtò, ìfaradà àwòṣe tí ó gbajúgbajà láàrin àwùjọ nínú àwọn ipò obìnrin nínú agbára ìṣèlú Áfíríkà. Gbígbé Ìyálóde sí ọ̀gangan ipò ẹ̀kọ́ ìmọ̀ ajẹmọ́-adarí Áfíríkà lápapọ̀, iṣẹ́ yìí ṣe àtúngbékalẹ̀ ìjákọni gẹ́gẹ́ bí àṣà àti ìwà ìmẹ̀tọ́ èyí tí ó jẹ yọ nínú ìfarasìn, àkóyawọ́ àti ìtẹ̀ṣíwájú láti ìran dé ìran, dípò ìdánìkànṣe tàbí ìṣagbára mọ́ ogun. Este trabalho examina a compreensão de Iyalóde como uma posição de liderança e uma base para a representação das mulheres africanas no poder político dentro da estrutura da governança tradicional iorubá. Recorrendo a evidências do conhecimento histórico, da teoria política africana, do pensamento político tradicional, da tradição oral e de pesquisa aprofundada, este trabalho estabelece que Iyalóde se destaca como um dos modelos mais duradouros, relevantes e socialmente relevantes das posições das mulheres no poder político africano. Mais do que um mero símbolo cerimonial, Iyalóde é um ritual inserido no contexto político por meio do qual as ideias das mulheres, o poder social e o poder de representação são incorporados na governança iorubá. Colocando Iyalóde na vanguarda da ciência política africana, este trabalho restabelece a liderança como uma cultura e uma virtude que emerge da submissão, da cooperação e do progresso de geração em geração, em vez do individualismo ou da força militar. Este estudo traça as origens históricas do título de Iyalóde na Iorubalândia, examinando como a prática do poder político feminino foi moldada pela fragmentação da governança pré-colonial e sua consolidação após a ruptura colonial. Ao analisar Iyalóde como um título tradicional e uma posição de liderança contemporânea, este estudo contribui para o debate sobre o colonialismo e para a ciência política africana, desafia a compreensão histórica de gênero e colonialismo na política africana e apresenta Iyalóde como um modelo poderoso de liderança política feminina africana, com foco em sua importância nas discussões sobre governança, igualdade de gênero e cultura de libertação.

is a scholar and cultural researcher whose work centers on Yoruba history, women’s leadership, and African indigenous knowledge systems. Their research explores gender, spirituality, oral traditions, and the preservation of underrepresented African heroines whose cultural labor shapes intergenerational memory across Africa and the diaspora.
