Humanized Care in Health Services in Angola and the Role of the Social Worker: An Interview with José Dias Mateus

Nesta instigante entrevista, com José Dias Mateus, ficamos a saber sobre o seu percurso profissional e das motivações que o levaram a se formar em Serviço Social, bem como sobre assuntos ligados à humanização, atendimento humanizado nos serviços de saúde em Angola e da missão do Assistente Social. No desdobrar da entrevista, o pesquisador argumenta que a verdadeira humanização no atendimento aos serviços de saúde é incompatível com um modelo capitalista de relações sociais, este que perpetua as desigualdades sociais. O mesmo leva-nos a percebermos como o capitalismo “engoliu” totalmente a humanização, através da forma como tudo se move pelo mercado. Por meio de profundas reflexões, o entrevistado defende que a prática profissional do Assistente Social deve estar profundamente conectada a uma teoria que precisa ser discutida e compreendida, a fim de desafiar a estrutura social vigente. Algumas críticas e interrogações pontuais também são encontradas no texto, manifestando a indignação de um profissional com a vocação de buscar defender os direitos dos subalternizados, na condição de o mesmo ser e fazer parte deles.

In this insightful interview with José Dias Mateus, we learn about his professional journey and the motivations that led him to pursue a degree in Social Work, as well as about issues related to humanization, humanized care in Angolan health services, and the mission of the Social Worker. As the interview unfolds, the researcher argues that true humanization in healthcare services is incompatible with a capitalist model of social relations, which perpetuates social inequalities. He leads us to understand how capitalism has completely "swallowed up" humanization, through the way everything is driven by the market. Through deep reflections, the interviewee argues that the professional practice of Social Work must be deeply connected to a theory that needs to be discussed and understood in order to challenge the existing social structure. Some criticisms and pointed questions are also found in the text, manifesting the indignation of a professional with a vocation to defend the rights of the marginalized, in the condition of being and being part of them.
