Abstract

Ìwé àpilẹ̀kọ́ yìí ṣe àgbéyẹ̀wò ipa àti akitiyan Ọ̀jọ̀gbọ́n Kọ́lá Owólabí gẹ́gẹ́ bí olùkọ́ ìmọ̀ ẹ̀dá aláìlẹ́gbẹ́, àti Balógun ajàjàgbara fún ìṣelọ́jọ̀, ìgbéga, ìpolongo àti ìgbélékè èdè àti àṣà Yorùbá. Àwọn àbálọbábọ̀ wa fún gbogbo akitiyan wọ̀nyìí fi hàn pé Kọ́lá Owólabí jẹ́ akọni tí ó la ipa rere mánigbàgbé fún ìṣelọ́jọ̀, ìgbéga àti ìdàgbàsókè Yorùbá.

Este artigo examina o papel e os esforços do Professor Kola Owolabi como um professor de ciências naturais de destaque e um defensor da promoção, disseminação e avanço da língua e da cultura iorubá. O objetivo de analisar essas contribuições é avaliar sua relevância e seu caráter heroico à luz de duas teorias propostas por Fishman: a barreira da língua estrangeira e a força da língua materna. Destacamos o trabalho árduo realizado por este professor, que inclui: atuação como professor excepcional, utilizando seu profundo conhecimento linguístico para analisar as nuances do saber iorubá; atuação como diretor e administrador do "Instituto da Língua Iorubá" (do qual também foi fundador); defesa global do uso de métodos modernos de ensino da língua iorubá; realização de pesquisas sobre as causas da extinção linguística e formas de preveni-la no contexto da língua iorubá; liderança na defesa do uso da língua em todos os âmbitos e momentos; tradução de leis e passaportes nigerianos do inglês para o iorubá; defesa do uso da língua iorubá no parlamento, em cortes reais, etc.; utilização da internet para a defesa e o ensino da língua iorubá; e uso de tecnologias de comunicação para a promoção do iorubá. Além disso, figuras de destaque da sociedade, organizações, líderes empresariais, escolas e a mídia prestaram homenagens ao professor. O reconhecimento de todos esses esforços demonstra que Kola Owolabi é uma figura heroica que causou um impacto positivo e inesquecível na sociedade, bem como na promoção e no desenvolvimento do povo iorubá.

Bọ́lá AKINỌLÁ , Adéyẹmí Federal University of Education, Oǹdó , Nigeria

Is an associate Professor in the department of Yoruba, Adeyemi Federal University, Ondo, Nigeria. He holds a B.A (Ed) in Yoruba at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, with Masters and PhD in Linguistics at the Premier University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He has about three decades of cognate experience in teaching and research activities both within the University and outside as sabbatical and adjunct staff as well as external moderator to other Institutions. He is a member of various professional bodies in Nigeria. His area of specialization includes, Morphology, Syntax and applied Linguistics.

Sunday ADÉJÙBẸ́Ẹ̀, Department of Yorùbá Adéyẹmí Federal University of Education, Oǹdó, Nigeria

Reader, is an emerging scholar and linguist with about 28 years of cognate experiences in teaching, administration and research. He bagged B.A. (Ed) Yoruba of the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; M.A., and PhD in the Department of Linguistics and African Languages from the Premier, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. His areas of specialization include syntax and dialectology. His research interests traverse syntax, applied linguistics/sociolinguistics and pragmatics. He is currently lecturing in the Department of Yoruba, Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo.
