This research paper examines the portrayal of Ewúrù as a heroine in Yorùbá oral literature. Observation shows that most studies on heroism in Yorùbá literature predominantly focus on male heroes, thereby overlooking the status and power of mythic heroines like Ewúrù; this is the academic lacuna that this study intends to fill. Two distinct research methodologies were adopted for this study: the first involves the collection of Ewúrù deity poetry that highlights the heroic deeds she performed, which elevated her to a revered hero-deity after her transition. Similarly, in-depth interviews were conducted with nine custodians of the Ewúrù deity (both male and female) in Mòro town. The second research methodology involves the utilization of relevant literature, including journal articles, books, and internet resources. The collected data were transcribed and analyzed using Archetypal Criticism as the theoretical framework. The findings of this study reveal that Ewúrù is not merely a deity, but a heroine who deployed her innate and spiritual powers to provide security, peace, and children for the Mòro community through her covenant with Láòbú. This study contributes to the body of knowledge in Yorùbá oral literature by highlighting how women serve as pillars of development and unity in African etiological narratives.
