Línguas e identidades: Um ensaio sobre as representações identitárias de Hugh Masekela

Ainda há quem acredita que a África é um país, uno, e onde só existem animais selvagens e pessoas sem cultura nem tradições. Essa foi a imagem construída pelo colonialismo. No entanto, sabe-se, por evidências históricas, que a África é o berço da humanidade e, sem dúvidas, possui intelectuais e artistas de todo tipo. Neste trabalho, apresenta-se um ensaio sobre as representações identitárias do compositor, cantor, trompetista sul-africano Hugh Masekela (1939 – 2018). A música consegue transmitir e agregar identidades socioculturais e exprimir um consjunto de sentimentos de um grupo sociail ou mesmo de uma nação. A carreira de Masekela carrega essas imprissões digitais das africanidades e busca representar o seu grupo e tradições. A pesquisa visa analisar essas representações identitárias em suas obras. Analisando diversos materiais discográficos produzidos pelo Masekela se concluiu que há uma marca permanente de identidade nas músicas, especialmente no saxofone, instrumento predileto dele e de expressão por meio do som afrimações das africanidades.

There are still many who believe that Africa is one country and that there are only wild animals there and people without culture or traditions. That was images brought by colonialism. We know, with historical evidences, that Africa is the cradle of humanity and, without a doubt, has intellectuals and artists of all kinds. This work presents an essay about identities representations of the composer, singer, trumpeter south-african Hugh Masekela (1939-2018). Music manages to transmit and aggregate sociocultural identities and express a set of feelings of a social group or even of one nation. Masekela's career carries these fingerprints of Africanities and seeks to represent her group and traditions. The research aims to analyze these representations of identity in his works. Analyzing various record materials produced by Masekela, it was concluded that there is a permanent mark of identity in the songs, especially in the saxophone, his favorite instrument and expression through the sound of Africanities
